2025 NAACP Memorial Day Commemoration
Highlands County, Avon Park, Florida - Commemorating National Memorial Day
Hosted by the NAACP Highlands County Branch, Veteran's Affairs Committee, the Veteran's Memorial Day Luncheon featured Keynote Speaker and U.S. Army Veteran, Selvin Walker.
Selvin spoke about the history of Black and African Americans service and sacrifice dating back to the 1500's and Veteran challenges with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
After the ceremony, in addition to fellowshipping, attendees enjoyed ribs, fish, salad, beans, and tunes from Ole' School NCO Club DJ's.
2025 Highway Park Celebration
Highlands County, Lake Placid, Florida - White Sneakers Ball
Hosted by the Highway Park Neighborhood Council, the event commemorated the 90th Year of the Neighborhood and 20th Year of the Council, and paid tribute to its matriarchs and patriarchs, and other influential people who helped shape the neighborhood and influenced positive change.
Proceeds benefitted the Wele Youth Camp, Christmas in the Park, Sharing & Caring Holiday Meals (Eddie Mae Henderson), and HP Homes.
Th event called for guest to dawn formal attire and wear "White" sneakers.
2024 NAACP Freedom Fund Gala
Highlands County, Sebring, Florida - “Rise Above” - NAACP, Highlands County, Florida Branch
The Chapter hosted its 13th year event, in 2024. The annual event supports the mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, to ensure political, educational, social and economic equality rights for all people.
“’Rise Above’ means advocating for those whose voices have been silenced,” Worrell said. “.... speaking out when it is dangerous or unpopular. We must ‘rise above’ the belief that this is just how things are, and justice is just out of reach.” (HSN, 2024)

Honoring Negro Education. This was the fourth and final site in Washington Heights, Sebring, Florida where Negroes received their education.
Established in 1948 through the purchasing of land by the county, the site consisted of 40 acres of sandy soil, mostly undeveloped. The school was located eight-tenths of a mile from the Negro section of town (Washington Heights).
